After many years of inspiration, collaboration, frustration and moments of pure joy, the first ever print edition of The Sorrowful Putto of Prague is now available. And in a particularly pleasant hardback format too.

In late May the Czech edition of the comic, Truchlivy Amoret Prazsky, was published by Argo. For those unable to visit the multitude of wonderful bookshops selling the title, you can buy online here.

Argo’s Petr Onufer introduces author James Stafford at the book launch for The Sorrowful Putto of Prague

The book was launched with a fantastic ‘Christening’ in Cafe v lese in Prague. The evening saw a fantastic musical performance from Czech musician KITTCHEN who also was kind enough to agree to formally ‘Christen’ the book.

For the occasion KITTCHEN even put together an achingly beautiful piece of music which you can listen to on our soundtrack here or watch in the below video (don’t forget to subscribe to our YouTube account).

We have been overwhelmed by the flood of great press the book has had so far in the Czech press and we’ll be putting together a blog on very shortly with all the television, radio, newspapers, magazines online and festival coverage and appearances we’ve had.

In the meantime, we wanted to pass on our thanks to all those in The Republic who played a role in getting the books in the shops and in the media.

Argo have been fantastic publishers and we are genuinely proud to be part of their fantastic catalogue of work.

Special thanks to Petr Onufer for believing in the project from the beginning; Richard Klicnik for his hard work and support (and his infectious love of comics); Gabriela Kisza for dealing with battalions of questions and being superb support; Pavel Růt for his wonderful eye; Alena Tejnická for the exquisite lettering; Milan Gelnar for also buying into the concept from early days and all the other good souls on the swift ship Argo such as Barbora Šedivá and Milan Dorazil.

Truchlivý amoret pražský has been blessed with some spectacular press to date (with it seems a lot more coming!) and we want to send quiver loads of arrows of appreciation towards 2Media – with special attention for Radka Potměšilová and Petra Vondrová. It’s been a pleasure to see with them work and it’s always a delight to visit them at their sublime offices too.

Finally, thanks to all those who came to the book launch (some from as far as various islands from the British Isles). In particular Jana Fischerová our wonderful translator (and even better friend) and Marc Stafford (part of the original CMS crew). Last but not least, thanks to Mr and Mrs Stafford senior.

We are off to once again, perhaps, visit a bookstore and stare in wonder at The Sorrowful Putto of Prague actually being a real book on real shelves.
